BALANCING AND ALIGNING

WORKSHOP

28-30 Nov, 2026,
Athens, GREECE.

Sensing Kypseli

Urban Polyphonies and Relational Architectures

This workshop explores Kypseli through its ambiances, understanding urban space as a dynamic and relational environment. Combining architecture, physics of environment, social sciences, and sensory practices, participants will document the neighbourhood through sound recordings, measurements, photographs, interviews, drawings, etc.The multiple observations and interpretations of sensory phenoma then become a key point to reveal interactions, rhythms and tensions that often escape conventional architectural representations. The collected materials will be woven into an expanded base-map of Kypseli’s sensory and relational dimensions. Through exchanges between experts, students and inhabitants, the workshop experiments with ambiances as an operative tool for reading urban space as a network of human, environmental and sensory actants.

DESCRIPTION

Balancing and Aligning:

Polyphonies of Ambiances

The workshop approaches Balancing and Aligning as a collective process of bringing different perspectives and experiences into dialogue. Historical, architectural, urban, social, artistic, and more-than-human approaches will intersect, bringing together experts, students, and local inhabitants. Under the title Sensing Kypseli: Urban Polyphonies and Relational Architectures, the workshop explores how multiple voices, sensory experiences, and everyday practices shape urban relationships. The Kypseli Municipal Market (DAK), itself a place of historical, social, and architectural significance, becomes a setting where ambiances are experienced, shared, and negotiated. Radio-inspired practices, including evening radio shows, will encourage listening, discussion, and collective experimentation. Rather than seeking consensus or a unified representation, the aim is to explore convergences, divergences, and unexpected connections while preserving differences.
